Movie Review:
Vikram Vedha is the best action-thriller that has come out so far in 2017. As the mentioned in the title, this movie is amazingly well crafted; thanks to its directors, the husband-wife duo Pushkar and Gayatri. Not only is Vikram Vedha a big break for Madhavan, but also a successful comeback of Pushkar and Gayatri into Tamil Cinema after 7 years. Their previous movie Va (Va: Quarter Cutting) released in 2010 starring Shiva and Lekha Washington.
The movie revolves around the lives of the two major characters- Vikram, a ruthless encounter cop and Vedha, a ruthless gangster.
The both cross paths when Vikram is already on a hunt for Vedha to kill him when Vedha keeps visiting him for short periods in which he aims at killing Vikram. This he does because of a vivid backstory, in a police shootout, Vikram shoots Vedha’s only brother Kathir. To avenge his brother’s death, Vedha takes every opportunity he gets to meet Vikram to kill him, but before that justify the killing.
Every short period that he visits, he tells him a small story that gives us a clear picture of his entire life. What makes the movie watchers sit on the edge of the seat is, after every time he visits Vikram and tells a story, no matter how much effort is put, he manages to escape. And this is where the major concept of the movie is portrayed- the Vikram and Betal story where every time the king gives a wrong answer the Betal goes back to the tree. This gives the viewer a thrill and also interests them in knowing what happens next.
The film is very engaging and also keeps raising questions among the audiences’ mind. The movie from the beginning to the end keeps questioning the intellect of the audiences. Mostly into the family drama genre, this film received a U/A certification because of a few violent scenes and words used in the arguments in the movie.
The movie indirectly asks it viewers questions based on their choice of good and evil. The amazing screenplay has been a great support to the success of the film. The cast not to forget to mention, the female lead Shradha Srinath as well as Varalaxmi Sarathkumar who played a side role in the movie have given a clean performance and have supported the main characters excellently. The climax of this movie is definitely one of a kind.. The one we would talk about in a random conversation 10 years down the lane!
