After almost a whole year of covid-19 struggle, Indian cinema is back on its feet. Many movies have been released on OTT platforms, but theatres have their own charm. People were eagerly waiting for theatres to be open. It was not clear if people will go back to the theatres after the last year, and even if they did, what would be the success rate.
All fears were stricken down since movies have been started releasing in theatres after the lockdown ended. Bollywood movies like “Roohi”, “Saina” received decent enough love from the audience in March 2021. Now the audience has turned to “Sooryavanshi”, the upcoming entertainment movie, with expectations of fulfilling their quota of enjoyment in theatres, which they have been missing for almost over a year.
Many theatre lovers are looking for a reason to set foot inside again. So many months of lockdown have taken a great toll on theatres across the world. Theatre owners are insisting producers not release their movies on OTT platforms as it is hurting the livelihood of millions of people associated with theatre industries.
Sooryavanshi was set to release in 2020, but it got delayed because of the pandemic. Now, after the lockdown, this is the first major release in theatres. Not just the producer, director, or cast, but the common public has a lot of expectations from the movie. It is a continuation of the police movie series going on for years.
First, south Indian movie Singham starring “Suriya”, then Ajay Devgan’s blockbuster Singham in Hindi, and then came Ranveer’s Simmba. Sooryavanshi is a continuation and mix of Singham and Simmba as the head of anti-terrorist squad Kumar (Akshay Kumar), unites Singham (Ajay Devgan), and Simmba (Ranveer Singham) to fight crime.
Director
Rohit Shetty and team direct Sooryavanshi; we all know that some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters are given by Rohit Shetty. He knows very well how to power pack comedy, action, thriller, and social message on one screen. Movies like Chennai Express, Simmba, Golmaal Again made over 200 crores at the box office, and many of his films easily cross 100 crores. It is being expected that even after the pandemic, Sooryavanshi is going to be the biggest first hit and will make millions.
Rohit Shetty has always tried to depict cops as protectors who could not protect themselves; as the protagonist, who does not only follow the law after something bad happens but also take the initiative, the pre-emptive measure to fight the evil, no matter what is at stake.
Production House
Sooryavanshi is being presented by Reliance Entertainment and Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Akshay’s Cape of Good Films. Dharma production is also known for investing in frequent blockbusters like Baahubali, Simmba, and My Name IS Khan, and Student of The Year. Similarly, The Cape of Good Films was founded in 2008 by Akshay Kumar himself with his mother and wife. Since then, he has produced many good films like Airlift, Pad Man, Rustom, Holiday, etc.
Cast & Crew
Sooryavanshi Has the main star cast of Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, and Ranveer Singh characterizing as protagonists, along with Katrina Kaif, along with supporting star cast of Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Javed Jaffrey, Abhimanyu Singh, Vivan Bhatena, Sikandar Kher, Nikitin Dheer, and Niharica Raizada. It is a continuation of Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe.
The whole movie is filled with suspense, twist, and turns at every point. The collection of some of the best Bollywood actors and actresses made it a blast of concoction itself. All the characters are given crucial roles to play, a lot of small stories building into a big one.
Background and Premise
The character of Kumar was introduced at the end of the last movie in the series, Simmba. Sooryavanshi will pick it up from there. DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, the Chief of Anti-Terrorism Squad, joins forces with Inspector Sangram Bhalerao and DCP Bajirao Singham to save Mumbai from a brewing threat.
The movie will take Mumbai terror attacks as the base to create thrill and anticipation in the audience, then keep building upon it as protagonists will work together to stop the next terror attack on Mumbai.
IMDb Trailer and Rating Link
The movie will be initially released on 5000 screens all over the country and then further 750 screens overseas. According to the data, the Middle East and North America constitute 75 percent of the overseas Bollywood movie business.
IMDb is an OTT platform that gives reliable ratings to movies based on several factors. I consider IMDb ratings while selecting movies. Many OTT platforms like Amazon Prime use IMDb ratings as a reference for their users.
IMDb provides details about the movie and also trailers so that you can decide for yourself if you want to watch the movie or not. It covers all movies released in theatres or on OTT platforms like Prime, Netflix, Disney, Disney Hot star, etc.
Akshay’s Announcement on Twitter
On March 14th, Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to share the details with his fans. He shared that the wait is over, and the long-awaited movie Sooryavanshi which was set to release in March 2020 and got postponed, will be released on 30th April 2021. He promised a cinematic experience to the viewers. He also shared a video clip with the message to show why the delay was so long and how it went since the launch of the trailer on 2nd March 2020.
Seeing the past track record of Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Ranveer Singh, Rohit Shetty, we already know that it would be a blockbuster anyway, but the main point is this is the first major movie after Covid. It will set the record for any upcoming film. As we know, the next is Salman’s Radhe, which is bound to release on Eid. It will set a trademark as all eyes will calculate how much population has turned up to watch the movie and how business will it do despite pandemics.
Entertainment aside, we see a surge in Covid cases around Holi. It does not matter if there is a free vaccine out there; it is still not available to everyone. Your protection and your loved ones’ protection are in your hands only. Do not forget your mask, keep your distance, follow the rules while in or outside the theatres.
